Become a Host Site

Be The Neighbor Host Sites are the locations throughout the country that open their doors to our groups who are eager to learn how they can be the neighbor that God calls us to be.

Each of our host site applicants feel that the work that they and their community are doing to combat an area of need can be learned from and taught to the groups coming on our trips.

Host Site's Commitments

  • Agreeing to host at least four weeks of summer programming by providing safe, appropriate, and clean sleeping and meeting spaces for Be The Neighbor (BTN) groups and interns.
  • Working with BTN staff to appoint a Site Director who will contract with the organization to plan summer programming and to serve as a mentor for interns during programming. Site Directors will be paid $900 per week of programming, plus an additional $900 for planning.
  • Respecting and welcoming all BTN groups. We are an open and affirming organization. By agreeing to be a host site, you are also agreeing to create a safe and welcoming place for all group members.
  • Working with BTN Staff to set dates for summer programming and determine the appropriate number of people for your location to host.
  • Providing kitchen space and basic kitchen supplies for the groups to prepare meals. This includes setting aside space in the refrigerator and shelves for groups to store their food.

  • Informing BTN Staff of fire, weather and shelter in place safety plans in the building and where first aid supplies are located.

  • Ensuring that there is separation in the building between BTN youth and outside groups.

  • Providing a phone number to BTN Staff of someone who can assist with any building or maintenance needs.

  • Communicating with Site Directors where and how trash should be removed and how appliances such as thermostats, security alarms and dishwashers should be used.

  • Providing appropriate keys or fobs for Site Directors, Interns and Group Leaders to enter and leave the building.

  • Have the option to provide a Monday night meal to the BTN Groups (this is not required).

  • Provide parking spaces for the groups vehicles.

  • Communicating needs and expectations with Site Directors and Interns.

Be The Neighbor's Commitments

  • Working with you to determine the best schedule for summer programming and the ways we can best work together.
  • Adding all sites as an "Additional Insured" on our organization's liability insurance and providing a Certificate of Insurance for the weeks when groups are present.
  • Ensuring spaces are reset and cleaned after each group according to your communicated expectations.
  • Ensuring groups respect your building, property, members and community.
  • Ensuring the only items used in your church are ones you are willing to share with the BTN groups. Please communicate in advance any thing or spaces that are off limits to BTN groups. Site Directors or Interns will ask before using any new items.
  • Having BTN interns share with your congregation about the work they are doing, if you are interested.
  • BTN will work with you to ensure that anything broken or damaged by BTN groups is made right.
  • BTN will highlight your congregation on our social media and newsletters thanking you for partnering with us in this ministry.
  • Unless another agreement has been previously made, BTN will provide $250 per week or $1000 total if your congregation is hosting four or more weeks as a thank you for partnering with us in this ministry.

Steps to Become a Host Site

Applications for new Host Sites should be submitted by April 1 for consideration in the following year. (Applications submitted by April 1, 2025, will be considered for 2026.)

STEP
1

Discernment

Spend time with your congregation discerning if this is the right opportunity for you. Some things you might consider: Do we have the space to host groups? Are there volunteers who would be willing and available to help? How do we feel we are called to be good neighbors? What justice issue are we passionate about? Who are our current partners?

STEP
2

Application

After deciding that this is something your congregation would like to do, take some time to fill out Be The Neighbor's New Host Site application. This is where you will tell us your theme, the number of trip participants you are able to accomodate, provide a vision for your trip, and give Be The Neighbor the details of your space.

STEP
3

Be The Neighbor Internal Review

Our Programming Committee, made up of members of our Board of Directors and staff will review all New Host Site applications in April to determine new sites that will be added for the following year. To be considered for 2026 programming, applications should be submitted by April 1, 2025. This will allow us time to make sure you're set for the summer and allow time for BTN to do any necessary site visits.
